Short Stature
A child's growth can be affected by factors that are personal or environmental. For normal growth, it is necessary to be healthy, eat right and have a normal hormone balance. Short stature can be familial or structural, as well as hormonal deficiencies or a reflection of another disease. Pediatric Endocrinology examines and treats all the possibilities that cause a child to be short.
Hypothyroidism/Hyperthyroidism
Disease symptoms occur when the hormone level in the blood decreases or increases.
Hypothyroidism is defined as the thyroid gland producing less or no hormone than it should.
Hyperthyroidism is a condition that occurs when more thyroid hormone is produced and released into the bloodstream than normal. Pediatric endocrinologists are also trained to treat thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, and enlarged thyroid tissue (goiter).
Early Puberty
Adolescence is the transition period from childhood to adulthood. Although there are individual differences, adolescence begins in our country around the age of 10 for girls and 12 for boys. It is abnormal for signs of sexual development to begin before the age of 8 for girls and 9 for boys. If there is a disease that requires treatment and the condition causing early puberty is revealed for health reasons, it should be treated.
Childhood Diabetes
As a result of the increase in obesity in children, the incidence of type 2 diabetes in the childhood age group has increased in recent years. The decrease in the effect of the insulin hormone secreted by the pancreas or its relative deficiency causes blood sugar to increase. Type 2 diabetes seen in childhood is also treated and closely monitored by a pediatric endocrinologist.
